Acmaeodera curtilata

Acmaeodera curtilata
Anza Borrego, San Diego County, California, USA
March 11, 2017
I believe this is the earliest record for A. curtilata. This species was only known from Dalea californica in the Morongo and Coachella valleys until David S. Verity collected one on Psorothamnus schottii at Borrego Springs. It is a very hairy Acmaeodera with a light purplish color.

Host and phenology
I have a good series of this unique species from Palm Springs and vic., collected from March 24 to May 11. I have one specimen from Morongo Valley that was collected on June 22--this site is almost 2000' higher, thus explaining the later date. Dalea californica is a synonym of Psorothamnus arborescens var. simplifolius, which must be the larval host as well, but that has not been recorded.

Hey!
