Ant and Aphid 6288 -
Lasius
Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, USA
March 31, 2007
Found some ants and aphids under a log. Found examples of both Acanthomyops and Lasius that were similar to the ant. Any clue on the aphids?

Moving to Subgenus Acanthomyops. Although it contradicts the comments below, it seems to be the closest grouping available.

Lasius claviger?
When you say "acanthomyops is now lasius claviger group" do you mean it is in the new Subgenus Acanthomyops or are you saying it's in
Lasius claviger
? Also, on what do you base the ID?
Thanks in advance and also thanks for the taxonomy update.

to the best of my knowledge s
to the best of my knowledge subgenus acanthomyops is not correct- it is currently claviger group (this may be wrong though- the book i am using is from 2007)
according to ants of north america- in the field they can be recognized by the following combination of traits: very small eyes, colour that ranges from yellow to orange, a generally shiny integument surface, and a strong lemony odour...
