Possible Hogna sp. miami - Hogna lenta - female

Possible Hogna sp. miami - Hogna lenta - Female
Seneca, Oconee County, South Carolina, USA
March 26, 2017
This very large girl was out foraging at night near the edge of the woods. She was so large she could not be contained in the catch cups I normally use, so I got ahold of a deli cup and determined that she was about the size of a half dollar legs and all. My guess because of size is a Hogna, and I would further guess miami, but I am not sure. She has spun a turret like structure in her new enclosure and has completely wrapped herself in it.

Female - Hogna lenta?
This looks like a female Hogna lenta. (south-eastern) What do you mean by "miami"?

Female Hogna lenta?
It is my understanding that Hogna lenta was recently renamed Hogna miami. In truth, I much prefer the H. lenta moniker and I hope that I am wrong about the miami thing. I have, however, seen this in more than one place. I agree though. I do believe she is a female Hogna lenta. Size alone was one of the clues. She makes these crazy little oval shaped "cocoons" that she encloses herself in. I have never, ever witnessed that before! Thanks for identifying her for me!

If that change has ...
been made it is not yet reflected on the World Spider Catalog. I've been waiting for this genus to be revised.

Not exactly
The Hogna lenta group includes H. miami in Group B, sub-group 3. I'm not sure how these species relate to your spider. Let's wait for an expert, before placing this to the species level.
