You are all so quick to reply so this time I need a REALLY quick answer...what is it, what can I do with it, what does it eat, and what does it become and when? I'd love to contain it and watch the process but without that information I'd be more likely to kill it. THANKS!

Not 100% sure but I think it's a Spotted Tussock Moth caterpillar. - Lophocampa maculata.

Thanks for the i.d...any idea what stage of its cycle it would be in? Is it going to overwinter in its current stage? Will it pupate or will it be still feeding and on what? I've googled Tussock Moths as I have one very different Tussock which I've posted earlier on this site. Apparently there are LOTS of very different Tussock moths!

see here, pg 473 says alder and willow are favorite foods and the pupa overwinters.
