pleasing lacewing larva - Nallachius americanus

pleasing lacewing larva - Nallachius americanus
Cary, Wake County, North Carolina, USA
April 3, 2015
Size: ~1.5 cm
Found under the bark of a standing, dead hardwood. Confirmed by Shaun Winterton

Interesting...and great find!
I recently added links to a number of references to the info page.

Gurney(1947) treats the larvae and gives nice figures for the habitus and head (Figs. 6 & 11 on pp. 163 & 165)...which match fairly well with your beautiful photo.

MacLeod & Spiegler(1961) gives further details on the larvae and life history.

And, for those who may be interested, there's Adams(1970)...a detailed review of nearctic Dilaradae (which, it turns out, consists of members of the genus Nallachius only).
