psyllid galls on Island Mallow - Bactericera lavaterae

psyllid galls on Island Mallow - Bactericera lavaterae
Madrona Marsh, Torrance, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 6, 2017
characteristic pimple galls on Island Mallow (Malva assurgentiflora). The psyllid (and its host) are native to the channel islands, but when the host was brought to the mainland the psyllid came with it. Adults were ubiquitous on the plant but I did not get macro photographs of them (I intend to do so at a later date).
