Camel Cricket - Ceuthophilus brevipes - Richmond Hill, York Region, Ontario, Canada July 22, 2007 Size: ~ 20 mm
Long hind legs with a remarkable system of spines. I tested the kick's strength by prodding the cricket from behind with a finger. My conclusion: the sharp-spined kick is good defense against other invertebrates, but no match for a finger.
