Thrips of some kind? - Hypogastrura

Thrips of some kind? - Hypogastrura
Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
April 12, 2017
Size: about 1.5mm
I found several of these insects on a Silver Maple tree, collecting around a sap flow on the tree. They seemed to be enjoying the sap. The temperature varied from the high 20's earlier in the day, to around 50 when this image was taken - good weather for sap flow.

Moved

Hypogastrura sp.
Collembola are called 'suspension feeders'. They have specially adapted mouthparts that allow them to ingest all kind of jelly fluids.

Thanks!
