My sons have been calling these the invisible force field ladybugs and I would like to know what they truly are...

Tortoise Beetle - Charidotella sexpunctata
This is Tortoise Beetle - Charidotella sexpunctata, and on a side not, Ladybug is technically Ladybeetle, they're members of the beetle family Coccinellidae. This individual is a member of the family Chrysomelidae
