Pseudophacopteron sp. - Pseudophacopteron - male

Pseudophacopteron sp. - Pseudophacopteron - Male
Chandler, Maricopa County, Arizona, USA
May 6, 2011
Size: 0.9 mm excluding wings
Specimen collected on a sticky trap, in a residential area of Chandler. Identified by Aleksandra Woodroffe as Pseudophacopteron sp., and confirmed by specialist Igor Malenovsky, who agreed that the species is likely undescribed, and matches very closely to "Pseudophacopteron sp. A" in Taxonomy and Ecology of the Jumping Plant-Lice of Panama (R.G. Brown & I.D. Hodkinson 1988).

This is the first record of this family in Arizona.

Host unknown, but Aleks notes: "The genus has been recorded from Africa and Asia on various Sapindales and Gentianales."
