We have a bumper crop of these this year. I don't know how many I have unrolled, trying to find the treasure in the middle! Usually when I pick them up the outer layers have dried and become a bit brittle, so those layers always came apart in my search. This one was still fresh and soft and I finally found proof that there was, indeed, an egg in it. I had always assumed that it would be in the center -- but it was laid very close to the end of the leaf -- just before the final "tuck."

Accidentally put it in the wrong place. The red weevils come to lights at night -- on the same patio under the Live Oak where I find the "egg rolls." See
