Wheel Bug late stage nymph - Arilus cristatus

I was surprised to find this unique-looking bug on my windshield! I caught it temporarily for photos and then released it. I assumed that it ate plants and so was gently handling it with little concern and it made no attempt to bite me, only made some funky smell. It was quite entertaining to watch it move about!
