Size: ~3 mm
Adults found on southwestern bristlegrass. Nearby spittle found on Calyptocarpus vialis (Straggler Daisy).

Clastoptera xanthocephala
This is the first record of this genus from a grass host. Were any spittle masses observed? Could they have been coming from some other plant, and just flooding the neighborhood?

Host unknown
I never saw spittle, so it is entirely possible that they are flooding the neighborhood. Certainly wouldn't count this observation towards a host record. But, I'll keep my eyes open. What are the normal hosts? There are numerous composites, oaks, commelinaceae, mints, etc. in the area.

Sunflower spittlebug
Mostly recorded from sunflowers (Helianthus) but also on ragweed (Ambrosia).

Host: Calyptocarpus vialis?
The most common member of the sunflower family in the vicinity is Calyptocarpus vialis (Straggler Daisy). I found spittle on numerous individuals of this species.

Thanks. Yep, pronotum not extended over scutellum and 2 stout tibial spines and crown of short spines at the tip of the tibia.
