Aurora Sesiid - Podosesia syringae
Aurora, Arapahoe County, Colorado, USA
April 21, 2017
Size: 20mm
Only just emerged

Moved
Moved from Clearwing Moths.

Moth ID
The western form of Podosesia syringae (lilac borer).

The stripe pattern
is not the same as any of the others pictured on bugguide, even Western specimens. Which characters are you using for your conclusion?

Moth ID
This is the western form called "fraxini". The abdomen is edged on most segments in yellow scales with more red and orange on the wings. However, this species is quite variable even in the west. You can read more about it in "The Moths of America-North of Mexico. Fascicle 5.1 Sesioidea, Sesiidae- 1988" I have studied this family of moths since 1969-Bill

Not calling your expertise into question!
I certainly know your credentials. I just didn't know what to look for.

note
Not a problem. This is one of the most difficult groups of moths due to regional variability and lack of good specimens for many species.
