Syrphid larva ? #2 - Eupeodes

Syrphid larva ? #2 - Eupeodes
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
May 18, 2003
The back end (with eyes??). When disturbed, this specimen positioned the narrow end over the edge of the leaf and bounced this view up and down for a while, would repeat the motion if disturbed again. Sorry to say this, it reminds me of someone I know.

Wow
I'm really wowed by this, whatever it is.

Syrphid behind
Imagine after downloading the shoot and have this pop up on a big monitor while editing. The small details aren't always obvious in the view finder, a surprise often shows up.

spiracular plates
I've just been told in the Entomo-L by Ed Saugstad "that those are spiracular plates, the external portion of the larva's respiratory system. All higher diptera larvae have these to some degree they can vary greatly in appearance), and they often are used by dipterists to help identify larvae either to species or to larval stadium."
Amazing shot, congratulations.

Thanks,
for the info, makes sense since aquatic syrphids have breathing tubes on the posterior. The obvious seems to become obvious only after someone points it out (obviously). Still resembles someone I know, ;)>.
