Unknown Yellow and Black Dragonfly - Hylogomphus geminatus - male

Unknown Yellow and Black Dragonfly - Hylogomphus geminatus - Male
Maplesville, johnhughmorgan3@yahoo.com County, Alabama, USA
April 28, 2017
Size: About 2.5 to 3 in long
I found this large dragonfly perched out in an open field near a creek. The contrast of yellow and brown was striking. He was nervous and it took quite a while to get close enough to photograph him. When he flew, he had an audible buzzing/crackling sound.

Moved from Gomphus.

OK, after checking Greg Lasley's images here, I would say that this is a male.
Thanks for adding Alabama, congrats!

Clubtail
This looks like it belongs in the genus Gomphus, but I'm not sure of the sub-genus. An expert may recognize something.

It is indeed apparently a Gomphus. Other experts have looked at this photo and believe it to be a Gomphus geminatus. First time sighting in Chilton county, AL, and this dragonfly is listed on our state's endangered list. Thank you very much.
