I beleive this is a Snowberry Clearwing moth, from the descriptions on this site. I took these images in my cousins garden, about 10am in the morning. It was very hot, 90+ degress, and very sunny. There were maybe a dozen of these taking nectar from a bush. They were very active.

Isn't this a hawk moth?
You have such great pictures of this guy! What camera were you using?

Hawk moth
Donna,

I was told this is a Hawk moth: http://bugguide.net/node/view/10732

I shot this one at a Butterfly garden, in SD.

Camera
I shot these with my canon 20D. I was using a Tarmon 28mm - 300mm f3.5. These were taken hand held. I shot about 50 - 60 images, and got 10-15 really decent ones. These were all over my cousins yard, so i had plenty of opportunities to shoot.

These images were shot at 1/640 sec, f/10.0, 800 ISO
