Ocola Skipper - Panoquina ocola

Ocola Skipper - Panoquina ocola
Parkwood area, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
October 3, 2003
A rather variable species in coloration, but the long forewings stand out. Note also the arrowhead shaped median spot on forewing--this is apparently a distinctive character. (1) The proboscis is impressive. Feeding on cultivated Liatris gramnifolia var. pilosa, the common native species in the North Carolina Piedmont.
