small moth - Mellilla xanthometata - male

small moth - Mellilla xanthometata - Male
Elk Rock state park, Marion County, Iowa, USA
May 5, 2017
Size: 1/2 inch
I watched this small moth along a horse trail. When in flight there were distinct flashes of orange. I saw it land on the trail a few times and I tried to figure out a way to get close enough to get a photo. Then it landed on my hand. The only trick after that was to get it to go from my right hand to my left hand and arm so I could get a photo. Proboscis seems shorter than one would expect from most moths.
