Eastern Pondhawk pterostigma--detail - Erythemis simplicicollis - Male
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
August 27, 2006
Just about a full-frame crop of the pterostigma itself, showing pigmentation. Various references I find on the Internet, such as the Odonata Central glossary say it is filled with blood, i.e., hemolymph.
