Dark bee - Melissodes desponsus

Dark bee - Melissodes desponsus
Geneva, Ontario County, New York, USA
August 4, 2007
Size: a cm?
Behavior on thistle is kind of twitchy and wiggly, and I have not seen these except on thistle, so far--animal is considerably smaller than a common eastern bumble bee

Melissodes (Heliomelissodes) desponsa
a thistle specialist

watch for its cleptoparasite: Triepeolus donatus

Thanks
Thank you!

Er, I wonder if I have already seen that Triepiolus donatus: I found a picture at a usgs site: http://pick5.pick.uga.edu/mp/20p?see=I_SD3680 (there aren't many Triepeolous pix on bugguide.net, yet).

and my picture is here:http://bugguide.net/node/view/134502.

It's possible, no?
