Oecanthinae, Tree Cricket, eggs - Oecanthus

Oecanthinae, Tree Cricket, eggs - Oecanthus
Plymouth Rock, Winneshiek County, Iowa, USA
April 23, 2017
April 14, 2017: collected stems with leaves (for their petioles) of Compass Plant, Silphium laciniatum in search of Silphium Gall Wasps, Antistrophus sp much like last year with Cup plant, Silphium perfoliatum
.

April 23, 2017: finally brought everything in from the garage for a closer look and to send some of the stems/petioles to Dr. Liu as per:

Also found yellow elongate eggs in both a stem and a leaf petiole

May 8, 2017: found 2 very small crickets, sent photos to Wisconsin Oecanthinancy/Nancy Collins. She said, yes, tree crickets.
They were very active and as I was moving them from the small vial to a petri dish, one escaped. I never even saw it escape but did look for it, to no avail. Picked some Goldenrod leaves (green, abundant and close at hand) and a raspberry from the fridge but Nancy suggested cricket food. An hour round trip and I now have a jar of Flucker's High Calcium Cricket Diet.

May 11, 2017: transferring to a larger container, it tried to escape and I managed to break it's hind leg
May 12, 2017: there are now 3 nymphs, the one with the broken leg is doing fine
May 20, 2017: now there are 4 nymphs
May 21, 2017: now there are 5 nymphs

Batch rearing.
None made it to adulthood.

Nancy,
Sorry to do this but the one image, nymph with blue eyes,

does not belong here. It goes with a second batch of eggs, collected on the same species of plant, same location, same day.

Yes, it would have been great to get even one adult. On a more positive side, I do have a multi-year supply of cricket food.

Does this series still belong here?
