Wasp from gall on lowbush blueberry - Hemadas nubilipennis

Wasp from gall on lowbush blueberry - Hemadas nubilipennis
Fish Farm Mounds WMA, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA
April 29, 2017
4/29/17 Galls collected from wild lowbush blueberry, Vaccinium angustifolium
5/10/17 First adult emerges
5/11/17 Several more adults emerge, including the one pictured in this series

This image includes four stills from a video taken on 5/11/17, showing a wasp emerging from its gall. I felt lucky to catch the emergence in progress. The adult chews its way out -- you can see the debris accumulated around the hole from the action of the wasp's mandibles as it widens the hole.
