Spittlebug vs leafhopper nymphs
What are some tips for distinguishing between spittlebugs and leafhopper nymphs? I can't seem to get these right.

 
In this particular case...
...it was just a matter of having looked at a lot of pics of both. :)

I've never seen a spittlebug nymph with this shape, but I've seen a number of similar leafhoppers. For example:



Look through the immature leafhoppers and then compare them to the immature spittlebugs. I think you'll see what I mean.
