Ground Beetle - Sphaeroderus stenostomus

Ground Beetle - Sphaeroderus stenostomus
Newport News, Virginia, USA
March 25, 2005
This beetle was found under a rotting log. It is eating a slug. This picture without flash shows a sort of reddish tinge that the beetle has. I'm guessing this is a ground beetle but is it possible to know more specifically?

Snail-eating beetle.
This is a species of Sphaeroderus, tribe Cychrini in the Carabidae. Great image!
