Cycloptilum bidens complex
I believe the ID as in the bidens complex is correct, the three species that could occur here (in the Archbold Bio Sta area) are C. bidens, C. tardum and C. velox [Love & Walker 1979, TAES 105: 1-66]. A photograph is, at this time, not enough to separate them as song characteristics alone are definitive. However, close examination of the subgenital plate of specimens might help as only bidens has two posterior-lateral teeth, and the distribution of velox appears less common away from coastal lowlands; however, much needs to be researched in this species complex and in this area.
