Papaipema, Artemisia - Papaipema

Papaipema, Artemisia - Papaipema
Vernon County, Wisconsin, USA
May 13, 2017
05/13/17 Wilted shoot of Artemisia sp., apparently A. campestris var caudata (Armund Bartz, pers. comm). Lep borer inside; shoot collected for rearing. Area searched for more wilted plants, to no avail.

05/18/17 Larva still inside shoot. Shoot photographed (this image) and then torn open to get photos of larva (next image); larva transferred to carrot (I'm still amazed that that works!).

10/15/17 Almost five months later, hooray!!, a live adult in the rearing container

Local Papaipema folks
A. Brees and M. Kenne kindly took a look at this post and suggested maritima and nebris as candidates for the species ID.
