Matutinal Flower Caterpillar - Schinia mitis

Matutinal Flower Caterpillar - Schinia mitis
Houston, Harris County, Texas, USA
May 20, 2017
A weird looking caterpillar that looks more at home in a Dr. Seuss story than on a dandelion bud as pictured here. Any ideas what it is or what instar stage it's at?

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Immature
Nice catch, Dandelion (Pyrrhopappus) is the preferred plant.

Thanks
Thanks Bob, first one of these I've ever seen. I didn't know it was such an uncommon find. I tried checking on it the next day but after severe storms in the area it was gone.
