How to verify...
As far as I know, there are three species in the genus and this is the only species found in North America.
Some of the other
Slug Moth
genera are very similar, but the lines on the wings don't exactly match. Sometimes it's hard to be sure. (faint lines)
Look for the upside-down "P" shape on the back half of the wings, in the lateral views. Also, the fringe normally has some darkening.
The
Red-crossed Button Slug
,
Tortricidia pallida
is the only one that seems close, but they are usually much more pale in coloring, the lines are thicker and the wing shape has a flattened costal edge.
