Caput succedaneum on newly emerged tree cricket nymph

Caput succedaneum on newly emerged tree cricket nymph
Lyons, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
May 23, 2017
Size: 3.5mm
Photo shows an emerging tree cricket -- not yet free of the egg and stem opening. Note the bulge of fluid on the top of the head. This collection of fluid dissipates within 30 minutes or so. It is similar to the human caput succedaneum -- an effect of the head pushing through a narrow orifice which can be found on newborn human infants following a long delivery.
