Walnut dead twig tip borer, larval sign - Anelaphus parallelus

On my way up to a hill prairie, I came upon a pile of frass on a leaf in front of me at about waist height. A twig of a recently fallen black walnut tree was suspended just above the leaf. Inspecting the tip of the twig, I found a neat hole in it, and a young wood-boring beetle larva inside.

I collected several more affected twigs from this tree, brought them home, and was able to rear three adults of the same species -- including this one:
