Bombus huntii

Bombus huntii
Boulder/Walden Ponds, Boulder County, Colorado, USA
May 22, 2017
I think it is a Bombus huntii, but (1) he (she?) is carrying something down by the tail -- a blob of pollen? And (2) what are the 3 little ovoids by the shoulder? Mites? I hope not.

Worker bee?
I took this photograph on May 22 in Boulder, Colorado. We had had snow and freezing temperatures as recently as May 19. I read a small handful of articles, but I cannot find any information regarding the approximate date that the queen might emerge in the spring. Thus, the question, is this bee most probably a worker bee, or might it be an overwintered queen?

1) yes, in the corbicula as usual
2) mites

Many thanks ...
... I shall look up corbicula right away!
