How to verify...
In the Texas range, you must be able to distinguish the eastern species, Pyrausta onythesalis from the western, Pyrausta pseudonythesalis. I'm not sure yet.

Thanks Bob. I compared the two and it's hard to tell the difference. P. pseudonythesalis seems more muted in color in the available photos. Both have been reported in nearby counties to where I am, though P. pseudonythesalis seems to be more prolific out here. I went to the LepSoc society site to see what has been reported at Concan. Bordelon and Knudson reported many species from there in recent years. They saw P. pseudonythesalis, but not P. onythesalis.
So I should probably favor P. pseudonythesalis. I'll keep this one in my list for getting another photo for now.
