Cladochaeta - Cladochaeta inversa - Female
Galena / Gateway Park, Jo Daviess County, Illinois, USA

Size: ~3mm
From a restored prairie, collected with a flight intercept trap. This is a pretty uncommon fly in my samples (and this seems to be the first adult posted to bugguide). The darkened leading edge to the wings seems pretty characteristic for this particular species. Another important trait is the presence of acrostichal bristles before the scutellum (though they aren't that much larger than the setae which precede them).

Only one species
I couldn't distinguish this from all other species based on the photo, but only one species is expected in Illinois and this is consistent. There are over 100 species south of the United States. Many of them have darkened wings.
