From a restored prairie, collected with a flight intercept trap. This is a pretty uncommon fly in my samples (and this seems to be the first adult posted to bugguide). The darkened leading edge to the wings seems pretty characteristic for this particular species. Another important trait is the presence of acrostichal bristles before the scutellum (though they aren't that much larger than the setae which precede them).
