Two of these medium sized yellowish dragonflies were in a weedy field at the top of a ridge. (A couple of the similar reddish dragonflies were in the same field.) Immature Calico Pennant male dragonfly?

Immature male. Look at the cerci.

Yes I see! One other yellowish ones picture did not show the cerci clearly but the wing bars were slightly pink so it probably was an immature male as well. Would the females all be hanging out near a water source? Ponds and creeks are in the general area.

 
Where are females
I don't know about this sp. But males and females of many spp. will wander away from the breeding area to feed for and mature for some period, then return to breed.
