Asilid - Callinicus pictitarsis - male

Asilid - Callinicus pictitarsis - Male
Oracle Ridge Trail, Mount Lemmon, Santa Catalina Mountains, Pima County, Arizona, USA
June 2, 2017
Thinking Callinicus pictitarsis, confirmation much appreciated.

I found the first one on leaves of an oak tree at trailside, about chest high. I found a handful of others knee high or less on leaves of small plants at side of trail. I saw one on the brown stem of an old dead plant.

These were on the part of the trail leading out just beyond the parking area.

Thanks, Eric. Somehow I'd missed that Callinicus is known from all over the west and was puzzling over that. I now see that Joe Wilcox way back in '36 mentioned C. pictitarsus from Arizona and C. pollenia as reaching to Montana!
Beautiful photos, indeed. And thanks for the perching microhabitat notes, Jeff-- those are always helpful!

Thanks
Thanks Tristan.
