Night Visitor - Monochamus notatus

Night Visitor - Monochamus notatus
Laurel Park, Henderson County, North Carolina, USA
August 19, 2007
Size: 2 inches long
This pretty creature and a few of its family members have been lurking around my cabin. They appear to be attracted to the night lights. When cruising through the air at their slow pace they appear remarkably large for a flying insect in this area.

I'm sure this will be an easy one for you guys to identify, but I am a total amateur.

Thanks!
