Bark Beetle? - Cryptarcha ampla

Bark Beetle? - Cryptarcha ampla
Snohomish, Snohomish County, Washington, USA
June 10, 2017
Size: 3/16"
Just discovered a massive number of holes in my Scouler's Willow (Salix scouleriana). All of the holes filled with wood pulp and retaining moisture. I only saw two beetles in the holes but these little guys definitely appear to be the cause of the damage.

Moved from ID Request.

I'm not exactly sure why this comment needed to be so confrontational. We are not all experts in what bark beetles look like that post photos on this site. That is why it is called an "ID Request" and I further went out of my way to put question marks after the title.

You could have simply stated that it was a sap beetle and that it may be feeding on the sap that was leaking from the damaged parts of the tree as were many varieties of flies and a few hornets.

I am here to be educated not mocked.

there was nothing confrontational in Vassili's response; he was simply informing you based on your original inquiry.
