Amara ovata (if not eurynota) - Amara

Amara ovata (if not eurynota) - Amara
Hurley, Ulster County, New York, USA
June 9, 2017
Size: ca. 9mm
Based on 3 apical setae, simple protibial spur, presence of parascutellar seta, all dark legs, faint medial impression on pronotum and apparent lack of carina on antennomere 2; distinctive characteristics according to Bousquet 2010. Pronotal posterior angle does seem to be somewhat projected (as in A. eurynota), but I'm guessing that it's not enough to consider it that species. Dissenting opinions welcome.

yeah, must defer it to the experts
not eurynota, that's for sure

Moved from Seed-Eating Ground Beetles.

why not?
I am NOT disagreeing with you, but having spent a while working this final couplet in Bousquet and looking at images, I was curious what immediately tells you it's not eurynota. Thanks for your input.

eurynota is a familiar beast
it was quite common where i grew up, and one of rather distinctive, easily recognizable species

Thanks.
I appreciate gestalt, but obviously not a species for which I have that. Thanks for the input, I'm putting it down as A. ovata for now.
