Eudectus crassicornis - Eudectus crassicornis

Eudectus crassicornis - Eudectus crassicornis
Washington, District of Columbia, USA
December 15, 2014
Emerged from a rearing barrel filled with Quercus palustris limbs.
Species determined from this image by Adam Brunke and confirmed by Margaret Thayer.
Apparently a substantial range expansion from published records.
New genus for the guide!!

not so sure...
I'm having second thoughts about this being Eudectus crassicornis; the pronotum seems to have angled (as well as crenulate) lateral margins, which isn't quite usual. It's certainly Coryphiini, and does key out to Eudectus in American Beetles...

Interesting...
Once the shutdown ends and I can return to work, I’ll pull this and one other specimen and take some better images for you.

thank you ever so much, Marc
Moved from Rove Beetles.
