eggs, 1st instar & 2nd instar - Podisus
Buckingham, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA
June 11, 2017
Found on Acer rubrum.
Visible in this early morning photo are eggs, 1st instars, shed black skins, a 2nd instar that has just emerged and is still all red, and more advanced 2nd instars. By mid-day, all were completely transformed and crawling around the leaf, but continuing to feed on the unhatched eggs. By the next morning, the eggs were gone, and several 2nd instars were found on surrounding leaves, quite mobile.
