Pandora Sphinx? -
Eumorpha pandorus

Size: 2-3 inches
I'm pretty sure this is a Pandora Sphinx moth. But are they common in central Virginia?

They can be found in most of the eastern US.
I don't think I would call them common, but it is surprising the large Sphinx and Silk moths that are around but usually not seen.
