Horned Clubtail
I think this is a male Horned Clubtail (Arigomphus cornutus). It would explain the radically shaped cerci, abdominal markings, etc.

Horned Clubtail
BINGO!

Thanks, Nick

My field guides don't do a very good job with Horned. Bugguide has a very nice photo of the cerci on a Horned and I'm convinced.

Cheers,

Larry

Aha
Yes.

I'm thinking Pronghorn
G. graslinellus, based on the cerci, although the dark S9 is odd.

Dusky?? Clubtail
Thanks, Cliff

I was also considering Pronghorn but the lack of dorsal spot on S9, the largish spot on S10, the narrowness of the club and the red lateral stripes on S8 and S9 pointed me towards Horned
.

Cheers,

Larry
