Size: 3 cm long
This little moth was hanging onto a blade of grass off of the trail. It did not move when I picked it up to take a photo.

One of the prettier moths of North America, Dryocampa rubicunda - the Rosy Maple Moth.

 
I'm going to disagree...
I think this may be a pink prominent--Hodges 8022.
The reason I think it's this one, is that the rosey maple's entire body and head tend to be all yellow, whereas this photo shows pink on both head and tail ends.

the other similar looking one is a primrose, but the margins of color on the specimen shown here seem to rule out this choice.
