Chlaenius purpuricollis

Chlaenius purpuricollis
Waukegan, Illinois, USA
This species is quite uncommon and seems to be associated with sandy shorelines. Illinois specimens apparently from Lake Michigan shoreline.

Ball also lists records form Iowa... Ogden Dunes, Indiana... Douglas Co., Kansas... Winnipeg... Mount Washington, New Hampshire... New Jersey... Rockaway Beach, New York... Philadelphia.

A small species. Mostly black, but with a slight purple sheen to the pronotum in some specimens (others can appear almost entirely black). The shape of the body is quite a bit like Amara or Harpalus.
