Larvae, pupae, adults - Pytho niger

Larvae, pupae, adults - Pytho niger
Jefferson Notch, Coos County, New Hampshire, USA
May 26, 2007
Despite having collected plenty of Pytho larvae, my efforts to rear them to maturity have faired poorly till now. These were collected at Jefferson Notch, not far from Mount Washington, during my Forest Service-approved search for Py*tho str*ictus. All these individuals came from one leftover container full of bark scraps taken from pytho-occupied logs. All the larvae evidently sought the bottom of the container for pupation.

In this image you can see three adults, two normal larvae, two shortened pre-pupal larvae (although I think one died at this stage) and 13 pupae.
