Thanks, Jeff. I'm wondering, though. On page 229 of Kaufman's guide to N. Am. Insects (2007) there's a picture of the larva of a black swallowtail, and it looks quite different from this one. The Kaufman version is green with black and yellow markings. Are there variations? I see that it could be the 3rd instar.
