NOTE: The unusual projection on the face! To protect? To attack with? This may be more common than I know of. Flies don't always like their faces photographed.
NOTE: The vertical part of the calypters. It seems fairly common for flies in this subfamily (guessing Eristalinae)to have really large calypters.
