small barklouse - Ectopsocus californicus

small barklouse - Ectopsocus californicus
Brookside Gardens, Montgomery County, Maryland, USA
June 18, 2017
Size: 2-3mm to wingtips
Looks like Ectopsocus californicus but I want to make sure I’m not mixing it up with one of the other species in this genus. Found on the underside of a hickory leaf.

Thanks in advance for the help

Dr. Mockford agrees...
this is californicus. The wing spots are much paler in E. briggsi.

thanks Diane
I was confused by the spots being smaller than those of many of the guide's photos of californicus

Sent this one to Mockford...
californicus can be tricky to separate from briggsi without the specimen at hand.

thanks
I know I should have saved it as a specimen rather than letting it go but have to admit that I like letting them go
