Green Beefly ? - Odontomyia cincta - male

Green Beefly ? - Odontomyia cincta - Male
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
August 25, 2007
Size: 1/2 "
Just when I thought that I had seen all the new bugs in my yard , especially Beeflys , this guy shows up . This is the first time I have seen a lime green bodied Beefly . I found it as the sun was setting on tree leaves preening . I am truly amazed at how many different kinds of Beeflys there are and how pretty they are . I still have not studied Beefly species yet , but plan to since they constantly amaze me especially when I see so many and have a very small yard with many flowers , of course ! Any help in his I.D. would add to my bug knowledge , thanks , Beth
